SQFI has officially released SQF Code Edition 10, describing it as the start of a “fully digitized experience” for sites, auditors, and stakeholders. Here is what actually changed and what certified and soon-to-be-certified sites should plan for.

A new way to find your code

Instead of downloading multiple PDFs to figure out which version of the code applies to your operation, Edition 10 introduces an interactive Code Selector tool. This is a meaningful usability improvement for multi-site operators and consultants who previously had to manually track which document applied where.

Culture and systemic controls get more weight

Edition 10 places renewed emphasis on measurable food safety culture and introduces a revised scoring model that leans more heavily on systemic controls rather than isolated corrective actions. Management commitment, environmental monitoring, and preventive controls are all called out as specific focus areas.

Digital-first, but print is still available

The code itself is now designed for digital-first delivery, which SQFI says will support faster updates and better multi-language navigation. Sites that prefer a physical reference copy can still print one, so this is a delivery change rather than a requirement change.

Plan your transition now

SQFI has published dedicated guidance on which code edition to use and how to think about transition timing. If your site is certified under a previous edition, don’t wait for your certification body to raise it — get ahead of the transition conversation, especially if you are also navigating other overlapping changes like BRCGS Issue 9 or FSMA 204 traceability requirements this year.
